The Social Media Reset: A Conversation for Parents

From December 10, 2025, Australia will become the first country in the world to restrict social media access for children under 16 – a significant change to digital life in Australia, and the new laws are expected to have wide-ranging effects on young people and their families.

This FREE essential Information Session features a panel of award-winning neuroscientist and brain health expert Dr Mark Williams, clinical psychologist Dr Simon Wilksch, and two reform advocates, Charley and Kayla, with personal experience of how social media impacted their eating disorder.

The panel breaks down the upcoming changes to social media legislation, discuss why the reform is essential, particularly for those with body image concerns, and how parents can support their child through the changes.

Whether you’re a parent, an eating disorder carer, a family member – This FREE session is for ALL.

EDFA is conducting a national Social Media Survey to hear from ALL parents and carers about how social media and upcoming restrictions are affecting young people’s mental health, focus, connection, and family life. Take the 10-minute confidential survey or share it with others parents you know: https://bit.ly/edfasmsurvey

To help parents, carers, and young people navigate this transition with confidence, EDFA has created a Social Media Reform Hub, a central place to find clear, up-to-date information, helpful resources, and practical guidance. Visit the hub at: https://edfa.org.au/social-media-reform-hub/
