Lived Experience Counselling For Carers: How EDFA’s Fill The Gap Counselling Helps You And Your Loved One With An Eating Disorder

We know that carers have a critical role in eating disorder recovery, and as a result, carers often experience significant physical and emotional distress. EDFA’s Fill The Gap Counselling (FTG) service was established in 2023 to address the lack of targeted, specialised, lived-experience informed support.

What Is different about FTG? FTG offers free, online, nation-wide, counselling for carers. FTG offers a unique dual lens, where counsellors have professional training in addition to lived experience. Support is grounded in best practice, with the added advantage of counsellors having faced similar experiences.

This webinar will introduce the FTG counsellors, an overview of the service’s evaluation (qualitative and quantitative), and goals for growth and improvement. The webinar will also explore how counsellors support carers, including the unique challenges facing different types of carers, and where they are at in the recovery process.
